Before Maryland: Sumed Ibrahim played both soccer and basketball at The Walden School in Louisville, Ky. ... he was an All-American in soccer, as well as being the team MVP in 1996 and 1998 ... elected to the all-star team every year from 1996-98 ... Javanon, his club team, won the national championship in 1997 ... captain of Walden's team in 1998 and '99 ... named an Outstanding Senior in high school.

Personal: The son of Samata and Adam Ibrahim, Sumed Ibrahim was born in Tamale, Ghana, on Dec. 30, 1980 ... he has four brothers: Gafaru (29), Colen (28), Justin (25) and Spencer (22); and three sisters: Aminatu (31), Whitney (22) and Madelyn (21) ... he attended high school with fellow Terrapin Siba Mohammed ... both lived with their guardian family, Bill and Diana Schmied, in Louisville, Ky. ... likes to play basketball and watch television when he is not on the soccer field ... he most admires his mother for bringing him into the world, and his favorite athlete is Michael Jordan ... along with Siba Mohammed was the subject of a television feature which aired last fall about their trek to Maryland from Ghana ... came to Maryland because it has excellent soccer and academic programs as well as diversity ... majoring in economics.
