On Downing: A three-year veteran on the back lines for Maryland, Downing will serve his first year as a team captain this fall with fellow junior Beckett Hollenbach … a quick and agile defender, Downing will be counted on with Hollenbach to organize the Maryland defense into a cohesive unit as effective as last year's, which included All-American defender Dan Califf … possesses quick feet and is undoubtedly one of the Terrapins' strongest links this season … Downing will move from defensive midfield to the back, and will play centrally in the back whether the Terps run a three or a four-man back system.
