Before Maryland: A NSCAA and Parade All-American, Thompson's W.T. Woodson team went an outstanding 19-2-1, winning the AAA Virginia state championship in 2000 ... the Gatorade Virginia High School Player of the Year, he was also named the Washington Area Soccer Association striker of the year ... a four-time first team all-district selection, Thompson was also picked for first team all-region and All-Met honors three times each ... a first team all-state selection in 2000, he tallied 84 goals and 18 assists as a four-year starter ... spent the summer of 2000 with the U-20 national team ... was also recruited by Indiana, Duke, Clemson, South Carolina and Wake Forest.
