STORRS, Conn. - No. 6 Maryland lost a hard-fought battle 2-0 to No. 7 Connecticut on a rain-soak field in Storrs, Conn. Saturday. The loss dropped the Terps to 10-3-0 on the season, UCONN is now 10-2-0.

Connecticut jumped ahead when Leandro de Oliveira found Cesar Cuellar in the center of the field deep in Maryland territory. Cuellar then crossed it to Damani Ralph on the left side who hit the high curling shot over Noah Palmer (Williamsburg, Va.) for the 1-0 UCONN advantage 29:59 into the game.

Scoring was idle until the 49th minute when Cuellar sent a nice forward pass to de Oliveira who beat a Maryland defender and deposited the goal from the left wing into the lower right side of the net. With just over 41 minutes to play, Connecticut led the Terps 2-0.

Despite intense Terrapin pressure in the second half, Maryland couldn't put one on the board for only the second game this season. Palmer ended the night with five saves in the loss.

"I'm proud of the way our team competed. We played confident and committed a lot of players forward in an intimidating environment," said Maryland head coach Sasho Cirovski in his postgame comments. "The few mistakes we made that cost us are very correctable and I'm very impressed by our team effort."

According to Connecticut head coach Ray Reid, "These were two even teams tonight. They're the best team we've seen all year. We did a better job finishing, but we were also playing at home. They're a good team, they're going to be around this year."

The sixth-ranked Terrapins travel around the beltway to George Mason for a regional match-up against the Patriots on Saturday, Oct. 19, at 7 p.m. Maryland's next home game is Oct. 26 vs. ACC rival and ninth-ranked Clemson on Oct. 26 at 7 p.m.
