Sasho Cirovski, Maryland head coach
"St. John's is a great team - I think they are one of the toughest outs in college soccer. I thought in the second half we really took the game over. We came out with an aggressive mentality, our rotation in the midfield was much better and our execution going forward was a lot crisper."
"I think we showed today we have a lot more in our attack then getting goals from Jason Garey. I thought St. John's made some adjustments that gave us some problems and we had a tough time getting the ball into Jason and Marc, and we adjusted some things and were able to get a little more room going forward."
"I'm proud of our team for putting that kind of effort in the second half. We did all those kinds of things you have to do to win big games: we had big stops from our goalkeeper, we had different guys step up and score goals and you need the whole team to play well."
"Stephen King may be the most underrated player in the country. He's a tremendously important player for our program."
On the Schmid header hitting the crossbar
"Look, you have to get some breaks. If that goal goes in it makes it a completely different game and we caught a break at that point in time. We had some chances on our end that we didn't capitalize on. In the build-up of this game I said that it was going to come down to making big plays at key moments in the game, and I thought at the end of the day we had more big plays than St. John's today."
On Marc Burch's play
"Marc over the last three-four weeks has been one of the most important players for us going back to the Virginia Tech game. As I said last week, Marc has been gaining confidence in training and in games over the last couple of weeks. Today he had two great assists and you can see that he is playing with a level of maturity and connectedness to the rest of the team that he didn't have earlier in the year, and we need that from him. He was great today and he's going to be very important to our run."
Senior Forward Jason Garey
On the game-winning goal
"Marc made a good move on the left side and cut it back, and we've worked on that all week in practice - get the ball to the end line and cut it back across the box - and King is so good at finishing those. He's always in the right place at the right time and he puts them on goal."
On the team's chances
"I know I'm going to get chances and other guys are going to get chances and the other guys have done a great job of finishing theirs. I know if the defense is going to key on me, then I know that the other guys like Marc and King are going to step up and score."
Senior Forward Marc Burch
On the game-winning goal
"I know that King, just like Jason, is going to finish it. After I beat my guy I looked up and I saw both of them running through and Stephen finished it."
Freshman Goalkeeper Chris Seitz
On his progression this season
"My defense has helped me out all year. They've made it easy for me all season. They've been doing an amazing job in front of me and it's great to work with them."
On the St. John's attack "St. John's had a couple of opportunities - they are good offensively. I think our defense kept their chances to a minimum. All year, if we make a big play on the defensive end we've gone down and capitalized on the offensive end pretty quickly. I know if we can limit their chances then the guys up top are going to do the rest."
