COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Jason Garey scored a pair of first half goals and goalkeeper Noah Palmer stopped four shots en route to his 28th career shutout to lead No. 12 Maryland to a 2-0 win over Bucknell Tuesday night at Ludwig Field.

Palmer's shutout moves him past Dom Macina for the Maryland lead in career shutouts. Macina amassed 27 shutouts for the Terps from 1985-88.

"It's an honor because it's not subjective - it's something you really have to earn," Palmer said. "A lot of credit goes to all of the players in front of me over the years. It's all nice, but I'm just glad we got the win. I'd rather have a win than a shutout."

"He's gotten better every single year," head coach Sasho Cirovski said of Palmer. "What I like is that he's played very well the last three games for us. As a result, we've gotten a lot better and a lot cleaner."

The Terps controlled possession from the outset, but didn't get on the board until 26:26 when Domenic Mediate sent a ball ahead from the midfield through the Bucknell defense to a streaking Garey. Garey was able to get the ball before Bucknell keeper Joey Kuterbach and scored from 14 yards out.

Ian Rodway helped push the Maryland lead to 2-0 in the 41st after sliding in front of a ball just inside the midfield stripe. Rodway promptly sent the ball ahead to Garey who again beat Kuterbach to the ball and fired from 12 yards out for his second score of the night.

The goals were Garey's 13th and 14th of the season, giving him 37 points on the year, which is the seventh-highest total for a single season in Terrapin history.

Maryland out-shot Bucknell 17-9 on the game and didn't allow any serious runs from the Bison forwards. The defensive unit forced Bucknell to settle for long-range shots.

"It's a very good win against a difficult opponent," Cirovski said. "I think our team deserves a lot of credit for coming in here and playing well. I thought we were focused. I felt like we got a little bit of our rhythm back tonight."

The Terps will be back in action on Sunday, Oct. 31, with an ACC matchup against Clemson. Kickoff is at noon (the game was originally scheduled for 1 p.m.).
