Cary, N.C. - The Maryland men's soccer team put on a dominating display of soccer en route to a 2-1 win over NC State Friday night in the ACC Tournament semifinals at SAS Stadium in Cary, N.C.

The Terps (17-2) outshot the Wolfpack 27-5, and the Terps had several good opportunities to tally more goals, but two Maryland shots hit the crossbar and Jorge Gonzalez made several spectacular saves to keep NC State in the match.

Maryland's constant pressure in the first half led to the first goal. State defender Chris Catlett attempted to play the ball back to a teammate, but Jason Garey stepped in front of the ball and a low, hard shot past Gonzalez for the score at 36:42.

The second half was also played mostly in the NC State third, and the consistent offensive chances paid off as A.J. Herrera got past the Wolfpack backline and put the shot on goal. Gonzalez made a nice stop, but the rebound bounced to the foot of Domenic Mediate who put the ball in the open net at 71:43.

After that goal, NC State began to possess the ball more and get some offensive opportunities. In the 80th minute, Federico Peria drew a foul call on Scott Buete in the box and was awarded a penalty kick. Peria converted on the chance to cut the score to 2-1, but that would be the Pack's last good look at the net.

In the flow of play, NC State managed just one shot on goal - a slow bouncing shot that Noah Palmer was able to stop easily.

"I thought, in general, we came in with a very good game plan and executed it well," head coach Sasho Cirovski said. "I really felt like we dominated the game and very much in control, and were unfortunate to not get a few more goals."

The Terps now advance to the ACC finals, where they will face the winner of the Virginia-Wake Forest. Kickoff for the finals will be at 1 p.m. The game will be televised by Comcast SportsNet.
