Final Stats

COLLEGE PARK, Md.- - Redshirt-sophomore Sumed Ibrahim (Tamale, Ghana) broke-out with a nine-point effort Wednesday night to lead Maryland (9-7-1) to a 10-0 win over visiting Manhattan (6-9-1). With the win came several new school and field records for the Terps, including the new Maryland record for total points in a game, 32. The previously record was 24, set in 1956 against NC State.

An injury-depleted Terrapin team, playing with only 12 healthy field players and six injured starters on the bench, started off slow but hit their stride when A.J. Herrera (Albuquerque, N.M.) converted a penalty kick in the 17th minute. The Terps would score two more that half, freshman Ellis Welker's (Sugar Land, Texas) first collegiate goal and Sumed's first score of the night.

The second half was all Maryland, with Herrera starting the action again for his second goal less than three minutes into the half. Sumed scored his second goal of the night under two minutes later to make it a 5-0 Maryland advantage with over 40 minutes remaining to play. Sophomore defender Philip Salyer (Dallas, Texas) got into the action in the 66th minute, followed by Welker's second goal of the night one minute and 20 seconds later. Welker and Herrera both ended with two goals and two assists, second only to Sumed's three goal-three assist performance.

Maryland finished the game off with three more goals, one more by Sumed and two by sophomore Robert Sjolund (Borlange, Sweden). The final tally, a 10-0 Maryland shutout, marked the first time the Terps have scored 10 or more goals since 1968 against George Washington.

All told, nine different Terrapin records were either broken or tied in the game. Redshirt-sophomore Siba Mohammed (Tamale, Ghana) and Sumed both had a team-high three assists, which tied the school record for assists in a game, previously shared by Jason Sardis (1997-00) and Keith Beach (1995-98). The Terrapins outshot Manhattan 49-4, establishing a new Ludwig Field record for shots in a game, and shattering the old record of 31 from both the Momnouth game in 1999 and the Robert Morris contest in 1996. The Terps also reset Ludwig Field records for goals in a game (10), assists (12), and points (32). Sumed's nine points reset the Ludwig Field record for points in a game, previously six by Abe Thompson (Fairfax Station, Va.) and Tod Herskovitz (1995). He also tied Thompson and Hersovitz's Ludwig record for goals in a game (3), and teamed with Siba to tie the Ludwig mark for assists in a game (3), previously held by Sardis and Beach.

Maryland will hold its senior day celebration on Sunday, Nov. 11, when it will honor lone senior Beckett Hollenbach (Havertown, Pa.). Game time is 1 p.m. at Ludwig Field. Manhattan meets Loyola in its conference tournament on Friday.
