Men's Soccer Gets Past Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. - Maryland freshman forward Taylor Twellman scored two goals and senior midfielder Keith Beach added two assists to lead the 18th-ranked Terrapins to a 3-1 win against the Richmond Spiders Wednesday night at Richmond Soccer Stadium.

Twellman increased his season goal total to 12 while Beach upped his season assist total to 12, and his career total to 30. Beach now has 62 career points which ranks him 10th all-time on the Maryland career points chart. He replaces former Terp Gary Furlong at No. 10. Entering tonight's match, Beach was tied with Furlong for 10th place with 60 points. Maryland improves to 9-4 overall, while the Spiders fell to 6-5-2.

Twellman and Beach would first connect at the 9:34 mark when Twellman scored off a Keith Beach corner kick. Richmond would knot the score at one apiece at the 24:07 mark when Brent Cesear would score off of a penalty kick. Maryland freshman midfielder Dan Califf would give the Terps the go-ahead goal at the 43:27 mark after knocking in a ball which was deflected off of the crossbar. Twellman would strike once more, again off of a Beach corner kick at the 79:50 mark. In goal, Maryland sophomore Christian Lewis posted two saves.

Maryland returns to Ludwig Field on Saturday, Oct. 17, hosting William & Mary at 7 p.m.
