COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The No. 1 Maryland men's soccer team dominated Colgate 2-0 Tuesday night at Ludwig Field to secure its second best start in program history.

Schillo Tshuma and Patrick Mullins each netted goals for Maryland (12-0-1, 5-0-0 ACC), which is off to its finest start since 1968 when the squad co-captured the national championship with a record of 14-0-1.

The Terps' starting lineup sported a new look as Maryland began the game with five freshmen and two sophomores. Jordan Tatum, who secured his second shutout in 2012, made his third start in goal and Jake Pace, Alex Shinsky and Marquez Fernandez recorded their first starts of the season.

After a sluggish first half where Maryland managed only five shots, the action picked up in the second period, with many regular Terrapin starters returning to the pitch.

Maryland pushed Colgate's defense numerous times with shots flying wide and high before Tshuma scored off a Mullins' free kick in the 62nd minute. The ball fell to the front of the net and the freshman finished from three yards for his fifth goal of the season.

Mullins added one of his own in the 85th minute. The Terps crowded the net and David Kabelik and John Stertzer forced the ball to Mullins, who tipped it in to pad the lead to 2-0. Mullins' goal was his team-leading eighth in the 2012.

Maryland, which garnered its 11th straight victory, outshot Colgate 17-2, including a decisive 12-1 advantage in the second stanza.

"I thought it was a solid performance...an okay first half, a very good second half," head coach Sasho Cirovski said. "We held them to two shots and very few chances. I thought we were in control of the game. Once again, I think we needed to be sharper in our finishing but hopefully we saved some for future dates."

The Terps take on No. 2 North Carolina on Friday at Ludwig Field. ESPNU will broadcast the game between the top-ranked collegiate teams at 6 p.m. Fans are encouraged to buy their tickets early for the anticipated sellout.
