COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Contests with two 2012 NCAA tournament teams highlight the Maryland men's soccer team's six game spring schedule, which begins this Sunday against DC United at RFK Stadium's auxiliary field.
The Terps will play six games over the next two months, ending the session with a match against Akron at Ludwig Field on April 27. In addition to the Zips, who were ousted in the third round of last season's NCAA tournament, Maryland will take on the St John's Red Storm, who lost in the first round of NCAAs.
Maryland returns a number of notable players from the team that reached the College Cup and captured the ACC regular season and tournament championships last season.
On the offensive side, 2012 MAC Herman Trophy winner Patrick Mullins, who tallied 22 goals and 10 assists last year, will return for his senior season. The New Orleans, native, was also a NSCAA First Team All-American and the ACC Offensive Player of the year.
Head Coach Sasho Cirovski will have a number of talented options to put around Mullins. Forwards Schillo Tshuma, Sunny Jane and Christiano Francois should all play major roles in Maryland's attacking setup next season.
Defensively, the Terps return freshman standouts Dakota Edwards and Mikey Ambrose to anchor the back line. Both players, along with midfielder Dan Metzger, were included in the United States U-20 men's national team's preliminary roster before the recent CONCACAF U-20 World Cup Qualifying Tournament.
Maryland will also take on the United Soccer League's Harrisburg Islanders and Richmond Kickers at home this spring.
All games are open to the public and admission is free for games at Ludwig Field.
