COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Jake Pace scored two second half goals in just 48 seconds to guide the No. 3 Maryland men's soccer team past Adelphi, 2-0, on Tuesday night at Ludwig Field.

The Terrapin defense held the Panthers to zero shots in the second half as freshman goalkeeper Keith Cardona earned his first career victory between the pipes.

Maryland (12-1-1) had possession for much of the first half, but was unable to connect in the final third. In search of offensive firepower, head coach Sasho Cirovski subbed in Pace in the latter part of the half.

Pace immediately delivered for Cirovski, nearly missing on a rocket shot off the crossbar in the 41st minute that careened back into play.

The Terps increased pressure offensively in the second half as Adelphi (4-6-1) scrambled to find possession.

After two near misses from Sunny Jane, the Terrapins finally broke through in the 73rd minute.

Taylor Kemp found space on the flank to play a curling cross to Jordan Cyrus. Panther goalkeeper Christopher Herrera made a fantastic save to thwart Cyrus' header, but Pace was there to finish the rebound and put Maryland ahead, 1-0.

Pace's magical night continued less than a minute later as he finished a cross from Kaoru Forbess to double the Terrapin lead.

The Maryland defense shut down Adelphi for the remainder of the game to preserve its seventh shutout of the season.

"It was a forgettable first half and an excellent second half," Cirovski said. "I think we were sleepwalking a little bit in the first half and Adelphi did a great job defensively...they were very committed.

"I thought the guys came to play in the second half. I'm really proud of Jake (Pace). I thought all of our reserves did a good job coming in but he's a young man who works hard all the time and has a great attitude. For him to come in and be the difference and score two goals in a difficult game sandwiched between Virginia and Duke was great."

The Terrapin victory sets up a marquee matchup with rival Duke on Friday night at Ludwig Field that will be aired nationally on ESPN3.com.
