COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Two pieces of the Maryland men’s basketball team’s 2014-15 schedule were unveiled Wednesday as the Terrapins are set to welcome a pair of 2014 NCAA Sweet 16 teams to the XFINITY Center this season.
Maryland will play longtime rival Virginia on Dec. 3 at 9:15 p.m. as part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge on ESPN2, before hosting Wisconsin on ESPN’s Super Tuesday Feb. 24 at 7 p.m.
The Maryland-Virginia meeting marks the first time the former ACC foes meet as non-conference foes since the Terps upset the fifth-ranked Cavaliers in dramatic fashion at the XFINITY Center last season. The overtime affair was the final regular season contest for Maryland in the ACC.
The Terrapins have played Virginia more times (181) than any other institution in program history dating back to the inaugural meeting in 1912-13. Maryland holds a 107-74 advantage in the all-time series, snapping a six-game losing streak in the final meeting last season.
Maryland is scheduled to play Wisconsin for the first time since 2009 and just the eighth time in history. The Terps are 2-5 all-time against the Badgers, which advanced to the NCAA Final Four last season.
Maryland was victorious in its last home meeting against Wisconsin in 2003, defeating the Badgers in overtime, 73-67, on a career-high 25 points from Jamar Smith.
