COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) - Chris Downs ran for 147 yards and a touchdown as Maryland beat Wofford 37-8 Saturday.
Wofford (3-1) is 3-28-2 all-time against current ACC teams. The Terriers, ranked 19th in Division I-AA, have lost six of seven games against I-A opponents since 1982.
Melvin Jones scored Wofford's lone touchdown, on a 2-yard run with 11:44 left in the game. That ruined Maryland's bid for its first shutout since Sept. 18, 1999.
Scott McBrien completed 11 of 19 passes for 128 yards and a touchdown for the Terrapins.
Novak kicked field goals of 39 and 43 yards in the first quarter, and Maryland scored on its first possession of the second quarter for a 13-0 lead.
McBrien moved the Terrapins 46 yards in eight plays, with Downs scoring his fifth touchdown of the season on a 6-yard run off right tackle with 9:57 remaining in the first half.
Maryland ate up 6:01 on an 85-yard drive near the end of the half, going ahead 20-0 with 14 seconds remaining in the half when Josh Allen dove in from the 1.
Downs' 8-yard run to the left on the fifth snap of the 16-play drive gave him 104 yards, the Terrapins' first 100-yard rushing effort of the season.
Novak drilled a 51-yard field goal early in the third quarter and McBrien found Steve Suter along the right sideline for a 10-yard scoring pass for a 30-0 lead.
After Jones' touchdown, Wofford cut the deficit to 30-8 when defensive tackle Anthony Jones tackled McBrien in the end zone.
