College Park, Md. -- Maryland students arrived hours prior to kickoff, celebrating the start of the Terps' 2013 football season, wearing their "Byrd Cage" shirts and ready to enjoy a football game at Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium.

The "Byrd Cage" - a nickname coined by Head Coach Randy Edsall earlier this week - had many reasons to celebrate in the west corner end zone as Maryland delivered an impressive 43-10 victory over FIU on Saturday.

"I very pleased with our students who came out to support their fellow classmates on the field today," said Edsall. "We really appreciate that they were out there in large numbers, and hopefully we can get them back out there. They arrived early and were very enthusiastic."

Senior quarterback C.J. Brown, who missed the entire 2012 season after he suffered a left ACL tear in preseason practice, completed 20-of-23 pass for 281 yards and three touchdowns.  Brown also rushed for 118 yards on 11 carries (9.5 avg.) and added two rushing touchdowns.

The "Byrd Cage" -- donning their new t-shirts with their new moniker prominently featured -- made their presence felt on a humid afternoon in the final day of August.  The Terps recognized it immediately and appreciated their support from the start.

"The students were terrific and were really loud," said Brown.  "You could sense it in our team introductions that they were very excited, and we really fed off their energy."

Maryland (1-0) host Old Dominion Saturday, Sept. 7 at 4 p.m. at Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium.
