Dorsey Selected in NFL Draft

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Wide receiver Kevin Dorsey was chosen in the 2013 NFL Draft Saturday, and several Terps signed as free agents.

The Green Bay Packers drafted Dorsey in the seventh round. He was the 18th pick of the round and 224th overall.

The All-ACC honorable mention started all 12 games last season as a senior, catching 18 passes for 311 yards and four touchdowns.

The Forestville, Md., native led the Terps in receptions (45), receiving yards (573), receiving touchdowns (3) and yards per catch (12.7) during the 2011 season. Dorsey was the No. 1 receiver for most of the season, missing the last two games due to injury.

Shortly after the draft, four Terps signed as free agents. Tight end Joe Vellano signed with the New England Patriots.

Furstenburg, a three-year starter, caught 16 passes for 206 yards and two touchdowns last season. The Flemington, N.J., native was Maryland's only representative at the 2013 NFL Scouting Combine. Fursenburg was a top performer in the 40-yard dash, vertical jump, 20-yard shuttle and 60-yard shuttle.

Francis, a four-year starter and three-time Academic All-ACC choice, recorded 149 total tackles and 9.5 sacks in his career. The Severn, Md., native ranked second in the ACC last season in fumbles recovered (0.25/game) and was an All-ACC honorable mention.

Drakeford became a starter at Maryland during his junior season. As a senior, he tied for eighth in the ACC with 0.55 sacks per game and tied for sixth in the ACC with two forced fumbles. The Washington, D.C., native finished 2012 tied for first on the Terps in sacks (6.0), second in tackles for loss (49) and fifth in tackles (49).

Vellano signed with the Patriots Monday after anchoring the Maryland defensive line for three seasons. A three-time All-ACC Choice and All-American in 2011, the Rexford, N.Y., native finished his senior season ranked fifth in the ACC and tied for 42nd nationally with 1.17 tackles for loss per game.
