DURHAM, N.C. –  Preseason ACC Player of the Year Alyssa Thomas picked up 14 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists, but it wasn’t enough as the eighth-ranked Maryland women’s basketball team fell at No. 7 Duke, 84-63 Monday.

The Terrapins suffered through a cold-shooting night, averaging just 32.4 percent from the field, well under their average of 49 percent.

Freshman Lexie Brown added 13 points and senior Alicia DeVaughn had 10 points and eight boards.

Alexis Jones had 22 points and Elizabeth Williams added 17 points and 11 rebounds for the Blue Devils. Richa Jackson had 19 points and Liston finished with 12.

Maryland (20-5, 8-4 ACC) led multiple times in the first half. The Blue Devils hit nine of their final 12 shots of the first half to open a 38-30 lead on Kendall McCravey-Cooper's stickback with 9 seconds before the break. Jackson's 3 with just over 14 minutes to play gave Duke its first double-figure lead at 49-39.

Thomas made three shots in a row to help the Terrapins close to 53-48 with just less than 11 minutes remaining.

Duke (23-3, 10-2) followed with three straight 3s, one by Tricia Liston, two by Jones. Liston added two free throws to make it 64-48 with 8:17 left.

Thomas is just 97 points from breaking Crystal Langhorne’s school scoring record of 2,247. Thomas’ 1,126 career rebounds are 103 shy of Langhorne’s record of 1,229. With her 58th career double-double vs. the Blue Devils, Thomas needs just three to surpass Langhorne’s record of 59.

The Terrapins are ranked No. 8 in the latest Associated Press poll and No. 9 in the USA Today Coaches poll.
