GREENSBORO, N.C. – Maryland wide receiver Stefon Diggs has been selected to the 2013 Preseason All-Atlantic Coast Conference Football Team as a specialist, the league announced Wednesday.
An honorable mention All-ACC selection as a specialist following the 2012 season, Diggs received 34 votes for the specialist position. He also received 19 votes for wide receiver, which left him one vote shy of earning a spot at that position.
Diggs ranked second in the ACC in kick return average (28.5) and fifth in punt return average (10.0), while totaling the second-most all-purpose yards in a single season in school history (1,896) last season. The sophomore has also been named to the watch list for three national awards: the Biletnikoff, Hornung and Maxwell Awards.
Voting for the 25-man team was conducted by media in attendance at the ACC Football Kickoff, which was held July 21-22 in Greensboro, N.C. A total of 65 ballots were cast.
Clemson’s Tajh Boyd, who was tabbed the Preseason ACC Player of the Year by the media at ACC Kickoff, received the most votes with 59. Florida State led all schools with six players, with four from North Carolina and three from Clemson.
Duke, Miami and Wake Forest followed with two selections apiece, while Boston College, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Pittsburgh, Virginia and Virginia Tech each placed one player on the team.
