Terps Head To Lehigh For Paul Short Invit.

Sept. 27, 2012

COLLEGE PARK, MD. - The University of Maryland women's cross country team is set to continue its 2012 season at the Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa., on Friday, Sept. 28.

Junior Becky Yep is scheduled to make her 2012 debut on Friday at Lehigh. The Ellicott City, Md., native did not compete in cross country in 2011, but was one of the Terps' top competitors as a freshman in 2010. She was the second Maryland harrier to cross the finish line at the 2010 Paul Short Invitational, traversing the 6k course in 21:46.

Senior Julie Fricke, Maryland's lone NCAA individual qualifier last season, could make her season debut on Friday, but will be a race-time decision, according to Maryland head coach Andrew Valmon.

Junior Maryam Fikri is also slated to make her season debut on Friday. The Potomac, Md., native was also held out of competition last season, but had an impressive freshman campaign that saw her be a point-scorer for the Terps at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals.

Sophomore Myah Hicks, who was Maryland's top finisher at the Navy Salty Dog Invitational on Sept. 15, and senior Anna Roth, who won the season-opening UMES Lid-Lifter Invitational on Sept. 1, are also scheduled to compete.

Rounding out Maryland's squad traveling to the Paul Short Invitational are freshman Catherine Sheffo, sophomore Michelle Hess, senior Christy Goldmann, freshman Emily VandeWater, freshman Katie Nappi, sophomore Maeve McCoy and freshman Jackie Lazzaro.
