COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland football team will make its first bowl appearance since 2010 and its first under head coach Randy Edsall on Friday, Dec. 27 when the Terps take on Marshall in the Military Bowl presented by Northrop Grumman in Annapolis, Md., president and executive director of the Military Bowl Steve Beck announced on Sunday.

The game is scheduled for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff from Navy-Marine Corps Stadium and will be televised nationally on ESPN. It is the first year the bowl will be played at Navy-Marine Corps Stadium after being held at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C., the past five years.

"I’d just like to thank the Military Bowl for extending the invitation to our program," said Edsall. "Our players are very excited about the opportunity to play Marshall University and play a game that’s going to benefit the USO. We appreciate everything our military does for us and to be able to play in a game that supports those endeavors is something very special for us.”

With a 41-21 victory over NC State on Nov. 30 to close the regular season, the Terps improved to 7-5 and will look for its eighth win for the first time since 2010, when Maryland finished 9-4 and capped its season with a 51-20 victory over East Carolina in the Military Bowl.

Maryland’s matchup with Marshall will be its 25th all-time bowl appearance and second in the Military Bowl. The Terps are 11-11-2 all-time in bowl games and have won five of their past six.

For the Terps, it is their fifth bowl appearance in the last eight seasons and will be their first matchup all-time with the Thundering Herd.

Marshall (9-4), which won the Conference USA East Division title, faced two opponents that appeared on Maryland’ schedule this season. The Herd lost 29-21 to Virginia Tech in triple overtime on Sept. 21, and defeated FIU, 48-10, on Nov. 23.

The Thundering Herd is led by quarterback Rakeem Cato, who ranks second in Conference USA in passing (275.3 ypg) and total offense (296.8 ypg). Cato has thrown for 36 touchdowns this season, which is the most in C-USA and tied for third nationally.

Offensively, Marshall is averaging a Conference USA-best 43.0 points per game, the seventh-highest total nationally, and is averaging a league-high 502.3 yards per game of total offense.
