CATONSVILLE, Md. - Here's what Maryland head coach Dick Edell and attackers Andrew Combs and Mike Mollot had to say after the 15-7 win at UMBC on Saturday afternoon.

Head Coach Dick Edell:

On the win and the Terps' NCAA Tournament fate:
"We really showed a lot of heart this afternoon. These kids have upperclass leadership not just from the captains but the other seniors. We had dinner with the captains and coaches last night. We spoke about making sure we got it done. The goal was set at the beginning of the season to win the national championship and that is still what we are striving for.

"Last year, UMBC destroyed our goal and we did not make the tournament. But that's water under the bridge now. When we go to bed tonight, we will not have to worry about our fate. We can go to bed knowing that we are going back to the national tournament. I think we belong there every year."

On the Terps' offensive ouburst:
"We played a very unselfish game. That's the way it should be played. For example, Brian Zeller, who has struggled all year long, was open a few times, but he still gave it up to a man who had a better shot.

"Buggs Combs is just the scrappiest player. He gets in and works around the cage. He'll throw it wherever he needs to and he scored five for us today."

On the hot and stemmy conditions on astroturf:
"We were concerned about the conditions. We haven't played in this all year. We knew we were going to play a bunch of kids because of the heat. They all did their jobs. It was a team effort and team win."

Junior Andrew "Buggs" Combs:

On the Terps offensive outburst:
"Coach Slaf just told us to breath, when we were down 5-3. We knew what we had to do and if we scored 10 or 12 goals we would win. We just started from there and we ended up with a lot more. We can put goals on the board and this showed that. Coach Slaf said we would have to sub for the attack if we didn't perform but we got the ball rolling.

"This week we put a lot of emphasis on fastbreaks and moving up and down the field. I think we only had four or five fastbreak goals all year but today we had a bunch."

On the NCAA Tournament chances:
"I can sleep a lot easier tonight because of the win. Last year there was doubt. This year we wanted to leave the committee with no doubt and I think we did that. There is no doubt.

Freshman Mike Mollot:

On the offense's performance:
"I'm happy with how the offense played. We played hard and played together. We were a team that was making good decisions. The offense really put it together. It was nice to score so many goals.

On the NCAA Tournament chances:
"Now we can start to prepare for the NCAA Tournament. We can go out there and surprise lots of people. We will be ready."
