COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Kyle Campbell (Ellicott City, Md.) scored his fourth goal with 27 seconds remaining to lift the Towson Tigers (14-3) to a thrilling 12-11 victory over the Maryland Terrapins (13-3) in an NCAA quarterfinal game Sunday at Byrd Stadium.

Towson midfielder Hunter Lochte (Baltimore, Md.) tied the game with 44 seconds remaining after the Terps regained the lead midway through the fourth quarter for just the second time since the game's opening minutes.

Towson (14-3) broke open the game in the first quarter, scoring five consecutive goals after Alex Poole (Hunt Valley, Md.) gave the Terps an early edge with an unassisted goal 1:09 into the game. Maryland responded with a scoring flurry late in the first quarter, registering three goals in a 22-second span to pull within 5-4 after one quarter.

After falling behind 8-5 with 4:03 remaining in the second quarter, the Terrapins sandwiched four consecutive goals around halftime and took a 9-8 lead midway through the third quarter on Mike Mollot's (Holbrook, N.Y.) only goal of the game. The teams were tied at 10 after three quarters before Andrew "Buggs" Combs (Baltimore, Md.) gave Maryland the lead with his 50th goal of the year, becoming only the second player in Maryland history to score 50 goals in a season.

Freshman Dan LaMonica (Parkton,Md.) scored two goals and three assists for the Terrapins and senior Chris Malone (Timonium, Md.) finished his college career with a hat trick.

Josh Tankersley (Novi, Mich.) had three early goals for Towson and Campbell added an assist to go along with his game-high four goals, which gives him 50 for the season.

Towson moves on to face No. 2 seed Princeton in the NCAA semifinals next Saturday at Rutgters University. Towson will make only their second appearance in the semifinals, the first coming in 1991. The teams will face off in the second game of the semis at approximately 3 p.m., in a game that will be televised live on ESPN2.
