COLLEGE PARK, Md. - New ranking, same story. The newly-minted No. 1 Maryland men's lacrosse team used the scoring prowess of Andrew "Buggs" Combs (Baltimore, Md.) and solid defense, the Terps improved to 7-0 with an 8-4 victory over No. 13 Bucknell on Tuesday afternoon at Byrd Stadium. Combs finished with three goals, giving him hat tricks in all seven games this season and raising his nation-high goal total to 30. Maryland's defense, which came into the game leading the nation in goals against average, lowered its average to 5.28, giving up just four goals to the Bison.

Maryland and Bucknell alternated goals for the first half and the start of the third quarter before the Terps scored the final four goals of the game. Combs put Maryland ahead for good with his third goal of the game with 4:54 left in the third quarter to make it 5-4. Mike Mollot (Holbrook, N.Y.) scored in the third and the fourth quarters and Chris Malone (Timonium, Md.) added another third quarter tally to give Maryland that 4-0 run to end the game and the 8-4 win.

Nate Watkins (Elmira, N.Y.) opened the scoring just 3:01 into the game, but Bucknell came back to tie it as John Terracciano scored his first of two in the game just 25 seconds later. Alex Poole (Hunt Valley, Md,) made it 2-1, but against Terracciano answered. Combs scored his first of the game to make it 3-2 after the first quarter.

Bucknell's Andrew "Worthy" Sanders and Combs traded second quarter goals to make it 4-3 at halftime. After Bucknell's Dennis Geraghty tied the game for the fourth time, Maryland put the game out of reach late in the third quarter.

Maryland outshot the Bison 39-20, while the groundball war was even at 38-38. Maryland's Pat McGinnis (Ellicott City, Md.) made six saves and back-up Dan McCormick (McLean, Va.) made three saves in the final 4:49.

Maryland finishes out the ACC regular season on Saturday, when it travels to Charlottesville to take on the No. 7 Cavaliers (3-3) at Klockner Stadium. Face-off is set for 2 p.m.
