EMMITSBURG, Md. - \The No. 6 Maryland men's lacrosse team survived an early scare from Mount St. Mary's and topped the Mountaineers, 12-4 in the Terps' first-ever trip to the school on a brisk and cloudy Wednesday afternoon.

After the Mount jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first 1:43, Maryland ripped off 10 of the next 11 goals to build an 10-3 lead early in the fourth quarter. The 10-1 run featured hat tricks from both Andrew "Buggs" Combs (Baltimore, Md.) and Chris Malone (Timonium, Md.). Combs, who has led the nation in goal scoring for most of the season, now has 42 in his senior season, which ranks as the ninth-best single season total in the 76 years of Maryland men's lacrosse.

For Malone, it was his first three-goal game of the season and third of his career. Malone also added an assist for a four-point day. Dan LaMonica (Parkton, Md.) scored twice and add an assist for three points.

The Terps' other goals came from Jamie Daue (Lutherville, Md.), Ian Healy (Great Falls, Va.) and Jim Sbarra (Great Falls, Va.) For both Healy and Sbarra the goals were the first of their college careers.

In nets, Tewaaraton Trophy Pat McGinnis (Ellicott City, Md.) made 11 saves over the first three quarters before giving way to sophomore Dan McCormick (McLean, Va.), who made one save in the final 15 minutes.

Maryland recorded a season-high 51 shots and scooped up 51 groundballs. The Terps scored on two of four man-up chances.

Maryland plays its final regular-season road game at Yale on Saturday, April 28 in New Haven, Conn. The Terps finish their regular season against UMBC on Saturday, May 5 in College Park at 1 p.m.
