COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland's trio of Mike Mollot (Holbrook, N.Y.), Mike LaMonica (Parkton, Md.) and Dan LaMonica (Parkton, Md.) combined for 11 goals as the No. 7 Terps (3-1) opened up the offense and downed No. 5 Towson (2-1), 15-10 on a rainy Saturday afternoon at Byrd Stadium and before a live television audience on WMAR-TV Channel 2.

Mollot finished with a career-high five goals and each LaMonica added three tallies as the Maryland offense blitzed Towson, outshooting the Tigers, 61-28. The LaMonica brothers Mike (18) and Dan (12) combined to outshoot the entire Towson team, 30-28.

"I really thought our offense worked well," said head coach Dave Cottle. "We had lots of opportunities and were able to spread the ball around and put it in the net a lot."

The total of 15 goals represents the most goals Maryland has scored against a top-10 team since the '98 Terps which notched a 19-8 win over No. 1 Loyola (coached by Cottle), in the NCAA Semifinals on May 23, 1998.

The win also aveneged the Terps' 2001 NCAA quarterfinal loss to the Tigers when Towson knocked the third-seeded Maryland team out of the tournament, 12-11 on May 20, 2001.

Mollot added two more assists to finish with seven points, tying his career-high of seven previously accomplished twice before. Dan LaMonica also posted a career high with six points (three goals, three assists).

"I scored a lot, but honestly as long as we come away with the win, I'm happy," said Mollot, who posted his sixth career hat trick. "It's about winning and that's what we did today."

With the scored tied 6-6 late in the second quarter, Mollot started an 8-2 run as he scored an unassisted goal with 1:49 left in the first half. He scored four of his five goals in the run which bridged the second, third and fourth quarters. After a Nate Watkins' (Elmira, N.Y.) goal 1:50 into the second half, Mollot put the Terps ahead 9-6 off a pass from Alex Poole (Hunt Valley, Md.) with 9:54 left in the third quarter.

After a pair of Josh Tankersley goals, Maryland reeled off five goals in a row, the first two from Dan LaMonica and Mike LaMonica, then two more from Mollot. The run concluded with Craig Hochstadt's (Columbia, Md.) fourth goal of the year, which gave the Terps an insurmountable, 14-8 lead with 8:45 left in regulation.

Junior goalie Dan McCormick (McLean, Va.) came up big with four key saves in the fourth quarter to finish with eight in the game to earn his third win.

Face-off specialist Brian Carroll (East Rockaway, N.Y.) had a strong second half after some halftime adjustments and won eight-of-13 draws after intermission.

Watkins finished with two goals to equal his career high for the third time. J.R. Bordley (Vienna, Va.) also added a second-quarter goal.

Towson was led by Kyle Campbell, who had four goals while Tankersley finished with three. The Tigers converted all four of their extra-man opportunities with Campbell and Tankersley scoring twice with the man-up.

The Terps return to action this Tuesday as they travel to Bucknell for the first time. Face-off is set for 3 p.m. in Lewisburg, Pa.
