PONTE VEDRA, Fla. - Grant Catalino, Dan Groot and Travis Reed each scored twice and added a pair of assists to lead the third-ranked Maryland men's lacrosse team to a 18-3 victory over Presbyterian in the opening contest of the Wounded Warrior Project's "Face Off for a Cause" fundraising event.

Senior midfielder Jeff Reynolds, who finished with two goals and an assist, got things off to a quick start for the Terps, scoring the game's first goal just 13 seconds into the contest.

Maryland then rattled off nine straight goals to take a 10-0 lead five minutes into the second quarter. Junior Will Yeatman led the charge with a goal and two assists during the run. He finished his Terrapin debut with a goal and three helpers. Also during the 10-goal spurt were a couple of scores from defenders Brian Farrell, who also added an assist, and Brett Schmidt. Freshman Joe Cummings got his first-career goal during the run.

The Terps were a perfect 3-for-3 on extra-man opportunities with Reed scoring two man-up goals and Yeatman connecting with Catalino for the other.

The Blue Hose got on the board with back-to-back goals by Clay Patchen and Devin Pinkston. But from there the Terps went on a five-goal scoring run. Capping the run was a nice goal by junior short-stick d-middie Dean Hart on a slick assist by senior Nick Ward, who tallied a career-best three points on a goal and two assists.

After Sean Mulford scored for the Blue Hose to open the fourth quarter scoring at 14:02, Maryland scored the game's final three goals. Freshman Michael Shakespeare tallied his first goal off an assist by Scott Tompkins, who then scored his own unassisted goal. Freshman Madison Fiore finished the scoring with his first-career goal off an assist from Ward.

Junior Bryn Holmes had his five-game point-scoring streak snapped, but was a monster at the face-off X, winning 12-of-14 draws and grabbing a game-high seven groundballs. For the game, the Terps won 22-of-25 face-offs.

Maryland's defense was ready for the opener and held the Blue Hose scoreless for the first 22:41. Sophomore Max Schmidt caused three turnovers with one groundball, while Farrell recorded three groundballs and one caused turnover. Sophomore Chris Ready and freshman Craig Sullivan each had two groundballs and a pair of caused turnovers. The Terps won the battle on the ground, grabbing 57 groundballs to Presbyterian's 18.

The Maryland goalie tandem of Jason Carter and Brian Phipps went largely unchallenged and finished with three saves apiece.

Maryland finishes its season-opening trip in the Sunshine State against Air Force on Saturday, Feb. 14 against Air Force in the feature game of the Wounded Warrior Project's "Face Off for a Cause." The Terps and the Falcons are set to meet at noon at the University of North Florida's Hodges Stadium.
