COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Postgame quotes following No. 4 Maryland's 19-6 win over Robert Morris.

Maryland Head Coach John Tillman
On how they were able to not overlook Robert Morris:
“We talked a lot about how mid-weeks historically for us have not been great. We have not always handled success as well as we should around here. And that’s something where handling success is tougher than handling failure, because you’re motivated when things don’t go your way to get back. Sometimes when you have success you take things for granted and cut some corners, not intentionally, but you relax a little bit. And when you do that, anybody can get you.”

On how important it was to shut Robert Morris down early:
“It’s really important. With this group we really have looked to try to get more of a killer instinct with them and we’re working on it. I don’t think we’re quite there yet, but we want to make sure we come out and get after it. We were a little bit sluggish early, but I think our guys played their way out of it. Jon (Guarino) I thought did a terrific job getting us a lot of extra possessions. He did the same thing at Michigan. He has done a really good job. Again, it’s an opportunity for him to show what he can do, and it’s a lot different in a game than it is in practice. You can say what you want, you can try to rep it, but when you’re in Byrd Stadium you kind of have to go through that to grow as a player.”

On the play of Jay Carlson:
“It’s just Jay being Jay. And again we felt like it was a tough spot for him or a lot of guys coming in off the bench in the wet and the cold [against Virginia on March 30] and expect them to be able to run because your muscles get tight and your sticks are bagging out. So we kept it a little bit shorter. But the plan was to use Jay, Rustin [Bryant] a little bit more, Kevin [Forster] but we just didn’t get a chance to do it. So it was great to get Jay in there today. And he does what Jay always does and it seems what he always does is put the ball in the back of the net.”

Junior Midfielder Joe LoCascio
On playing an out of conference game:
“You want to put every opponent away early, but the team who’s next on the schedule is the most important game of the year. You need to come out, play hard, prepare, practice and get ready for every game.”

On the need for improvement before next game:
“We need to sharpen up our stick work and continue to improve on our basics and fundamentals. Everyone can always get a little better with that type of stuff. I think right now that’s what is going to be best for our team.”

On his performance today
“I thought I shot well today. It was nice to get a little bit of extra work in, but it’s more of a team thing. It was nice to come out here and get a win at home.”

Freshman Attackman Matt Rambo
On today’s game:
“Today was just an overall great day. Both our offensive guys and our defensive guys put us in a great position. Our dodging was great all around and I was just in the right spot to get the ball.”
