COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Postgame quotes following No. 7 Maryland's 18-6 win over Colgate.

Head Coach John Tillman
Opening statement:
"Obviously I'm happy for our seniors on Senior Day to get a win. To try and get to 10 wins was obviously -- you saw yesterday with some of the scores in college lacrosse, it's an accomplishment. We were obviously disappointed with last week, but the guys regrouped and we had a really good week of practice. The seniors, their leadership was really good. I'm proud of the guys for the way they approached the game. There's no way I expected us to put up 18 goals and win the way we did, but we'll take it any way we can get it."

On simplifying the game:
"Like anything else, when things don't go right, it's always about going back to fundamentals. If you're not playing fast, how do you make it faster? You go back to what they're comfortable with and what they know and now you can play a little more extensively. Simplifying was definitely part of it. I give the guys a lot of credit, I give Coach [Ryan] Moran a lot of credit in terms of putting the guys in good spots. We watched enough film, and we had an extra day to prepare, so that helped. More than anything else, our energy level, our speed of play and I think maybe their comfort level, because we simplified all of that, worked pretty well together."

On the team's focus:
"There's so much that's going on, there's so much that could happen ... there's a lot of stuff, and there's going to be a lot of people talking about things that are beyond our control. We needed to play good lacrosse. If we played good lacrosse, that will get us what we want. Anything that's involved in [outside things] is a distraction and a waste of time and takes away from our focus. Some kids candidly said this week, `Yeah, we listened to some people and it maybe got in our heads a bit.' We talk about blocking out the noise. You're never as good as people say, and you're never as bad. It's almost there, and we have potential."

Junior Midfielder Mike Chanenchuk
On the game:
"This week was a very special week for us. It was Senior Week. All week we kind of took a step back and focused on refining our offense. We worked on the little things and playing Maryland lacrosse again. Everyone got out there and was very excited for the seniors. This could have been their last game. Hopefully we get another one next week."

On the game potentially clinching a high seed in NCAA Tournament:
"It is definitely important heading into the tournament with home field advantage. Being able to have home field advantage, going to the playoffs with the momentum from this game and winning for the seniors will shape us up for the playoffs."

On simplifying the offense:
"We got away from what Maryland lacrosse is. That is playing hard, making the little plays and making hustle plays. Our defense played great and allowed us to get more possessions. We went out there with some extra confidence and making the smart play instead of muscling in a shot or a pass that was not quite there. I think we had a ton of goals that were assisted."

Senior Long Stick Midfielder Jesse Bernhardt
On the defense today:
"We had a couple rough weeks before this and kind of lost our identity. I think that was the biggest thing coming into this week. We really needed to get back to that. I think we did a great job today all around. It all started this week in practice. Some of our scout guys gave us good looks of [Colgate attackman Ryan] Walsh and [Colgate midfielder Peter] Baum. They really helped us out. We got back in our groove and gained momentum going into the tournament."

On Colgate Attack Peter Baum playing midfield today:
"I know he is usually at attack. We were ready for him to play wherever. Obviously, he is a great player. We knew he was very versatile. Maybe they threw him out there for a mismatch, but defensively we did a great job."

On the offense getting off to a quick start:
"We went through a little rough patch. When our offense does a good job and comes out like that and puts five goals up that quick it takes some pressure off the defense. We do not point a finger at one side of the ball when we are playing rough. I think we did a great job keeping that lead."

Redshirt Senior Midfielder Jake Bernhardt
On the team's focus:
"Right now it is do or die. You might as well not have any regrets. We focused on us this week and that was why we came out and played how we did today. "
