Amelia Sesma, MS, ATC
Position: Assistant Athletic Trainer

Amelia Sesma is from Gaithersburg Md., and returned to the area in 2010 to work for the University of Maryland Sports Medicine Staff. Sesma is the athletic trainer for the women's soccer and men's lacrosse teams and oversees the Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving teams. She came to Maryland from St. John's University in Queens, N.Y., where she also worked with the women's soccer and men's lacrosse teams from 2006-10.

Sesma received her Bachelor of Science Degree from the Pennsylvania State University in 2003. While at Penn State, she worked with a variety of teams including; Fencing, Women's Soccer, Men's Lacrosse and State College High School.

Sesma completed her Master of Science Degree at the University of Kentucky in 2006. She worked with the Men's and Women's Tennis teams and the cheerleading teams for two years while there. Sesma wrote her Master's thesis "The Effect of Foot Orthotics on Single and Double Limb Dynamic Balance Tasks in Patients with Chronic Ankle Instability" and was published in the December 2008 issue of Foot and Ankle Specialist. She presented her thesis findings at the NATA Annual Meeting in 2007.

Sesma is a member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association. She is very interested in new research in Athletic Training specifically regarding ankle instability and lower extremity functional training.

Amelia is married to Matt Barrett also from Gaithersburg, MD
