#2 Terps Host #17 Coastal in Home Opener Monday

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The No. 2 Maryland men's soccer team will look to rebound from a loss at No. 14 Louisville when it plays host to No. 17 Coastal Carolina Monday at 7 p.m. at Ludwig Field.

• Maryland fell to No. 14 Louisville 1-0 at the grand opening of the Cards' new stadium Friday night. Mael Corboz led the Terps with three shots.The Terps used 16 players in the match, including freshmen George Campbell, Jeroen Meefout and Eric Carbajal.

• Season tickets for Maryland women's and men's soccer matches are available online by clicking here. Tickets for nine women's and 12 men's matches are just $70 for adults and $40 for youth or seniors.

• Single game tickets for Maryland men's soccer matches are available also online by clicking here. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for youth or seniors. Tickets are also available at Ludwig Field one hour prior to kick off.

• Maryland's match against Coastal Carolina on Sept. 1 will be the first of many men's soccer games streamed live on the BTN2Go app, which is the official app of the Big Ten Network. The Maryland-Coastal Carolina match will be a BTN Plus production and will require an additional subscription. Fans can access all Big Ten content on BTN Plus for $119.95 per year or a $14.95 monthly subscription. A Maryland School Pass for BTN Plus, which includes all Terrapin contests, home and away, on BTN Plus for $79.95 per year or for a $9.95 monthly subscription.

LUDWIG Parking Information

General Information: After 4 p.m. on weekdays and on weekends, there is no charge for parking in Lots Z1 or 1b or in Regents Drive Garage. Lots R2 and R3 are limited to vehicles displaying current valid permits for the respective lots at all times. The Stadium Drive Garage is closed on weekends.

Scouting the chanticleers

After advancing to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 each of the last two years, Coastal Carolina is ranked 17th heading into the 2014 campaign.

• The Chants edged UConn in their season opener Friday night, coming back from two goals down to defeat the Huskies 3-2.

• The Chants return seven starters and 12 letter winners from a team that captured a third straight Big South Conference title. Ricky Garbanzo, a MAC Hermann Trophy watch list honoree, led the Chants last season with 13 goals and one assist.

Last Outing vs. the Chants

Sunny Jane scored two goals and notched an assist as then-No. 2 Maryland punched its ticket to the NCAA quarterfinals for the fourth time in five seasons with a 5-1 rout of Coastal Carolina Nov. 25, 2012 at Ludwig Field.

• A conscientious Maryland defense held the high-powered Chanticleer attack to only one goal, and combined Jane's tallies with goals from Patrick Mullins, Mikias Eticha and Jereme Raley for one of its most complete performances of the season.

Steffen, Metzger named Soccer America Preseason all-americans

• Zack Steffen and Dan Metzger were both named Soccer America Preseason All-Americans, announced Friday.

Maryland falls at #14 Louisville in opener

• The No. 2 Maryland men’s soccer team dropped its first match of the season Friday night, falling to No. 14 Louisville 1-0 at the grand opening of the Cards' new home venue Lynn Stadium.

• After a back-and-forth first half, Louisville (1-0) notched the lone score of the match with an Andrew Brody tally in the 54th minute. After a nice serve from Ricardo Velazco from the near sideline, Brody found the upper right corner for the header and the Cards’ first goal in Lynn Stadium history.

• It’s the first time Maryland has been shut out in a match since a 0-0 tie at Seton Hall Sept. 20, 2011. The Terps haven’t been shut out in a loss since Dec. 4, 2009.

Metzger Tabbed to MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List

• Senior midfielder Dan Metzger was named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List.

• Metzger was a captain as a junior for the Terps last season and was tabbed a First Team All-ACC selection. A native of Holmdel, N.J., he was named to the ACC Championship All-Tournament Team after guiding Terps to a second straight title. Metzger logged the third most minutes of any position player for Maryland, starting in all 26 games.

#UKTerps - Maryland Takes Its Talents Overseas

• Maryland spent a memorable 10 days in England in the spring, experiencing life in Manchester and London.

• The Terps tied the U21 side of Manchester United 0-0 at a foggy Aon Training Complex less than 24 hours after touching down in England.

• Maryland went on to fall to Tottenham’s U21 squad 2-0 and picked up a draw at Crystal Palace 3-3 courtesy of goals from Alex Shinsky, David Kabelik and Tsubasa Endoh.

World Cup Terps

• Former Terps Omar Gonzalez and Graham Zusi played pivotal roles for the U.S. men’s national team as it made a magical run at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

• Zusi notched two assists, including the game-winner against Ghana, to lead the U.S. as it defied the critics by advancing from the ‘group of death’ before bowing out in the round-of-16. Gonzalez provided valuable minutes in the backline and recorded a pair of starts at center back.

• Upon their return to the MLS, Gonzalez and Zusi were both named starters for the 2014 AT&T MLS All-Star game along with former Terrapin Maurice Edu.

Maryland Picked FIRST In Preseason Big Ten Poll

• Maryland topped the 2014 Big Ten Men’s Soccer Preseason Poll, released by the conference office. The Terps return nine starters from last year’s squad which advanced to a second consecutive College Cup. Maryland captured its second straight Atlantic Coast Conference regular season and tournament titles in 2014.

Three Terps Selected To Big Ten Players To Watch List

• Tsubasa Endoh, Dan Metzger and Zack Steffen were named to the Big Ten Players to Watch List.

• Endoh appeared in all 26 games, earning starts in 25, and notched three goals and six assists on as a sophomore in 2014. Metzger was an All-ACC First Team selection as arguably the most instrumental player in the Terps’ successful campaign a year ago. Steffen, one of the top goalkeeping prospects in the U.S., was named to the All-ACC Freshman Team as a rookie in 2014.

Odoi-Atsem, Steffen Suit up for USMNT U-20s

• Sophomores Chris Odoi-Atsem and Zack Steffen were named to the 20-player roster for the U.S. Under-20 Men’s National Team as it competed at the 2014 NTC Invitational Tournament in mid-July at the U.S. Soccer National Training Center in Carson, Calif.
The U.S. took on Chile, Bermuda and Australia in the tournament.

Welcome Rookies

• Head coach Sasho Cirovski announced the 2014 Maryland men’s soccer signing class, which included two early enrollees and will be the first to compete for the Terps as a member of the Big Ten Conference.

• Freshman Jereon Meefout and junior Rutgers transfer Mael Corboz enrolled at Maryland in January and were a part of the squad’s trip to England in March.

• Other signees include Jake Areman, George Campbell, Christoffer Wallander-Ianev and Eric Carbajal.

Two for Mullins

• A back-to-back MAC Hermann Trophy winner, Patrick Mullins led Maryland’s high-scoring attack with 19 goals and 10 assists as a senior in 2013.

• The New Orleans, native tallied six game-winners to lead Maryland back to the College Cup for a second straight season and capped his illustrious tenure with the Terrapins ranked second in both goals and points in Maryland men’s soccer career annals.

• Following the 2013 season, Mullins was drafted in the first round (11th overall) by the New England Revolution in the MLS SuperDraft.
