SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Ashleigh Crutcher notched 21 kills and Amy Dion had a career-high 31 assists as the Maryland volleyball team fell to Notre Dame, 3-1 (21-25, 27-25, 25-21, 25-23), Friday night in Purcell Pavilion.

Notre Dame (8-14, 3-8 ACC) was extremely efficient offensively, becoming the first team to hit better than .300 against the Terps since October 13 at Miami. Ranked 11th in the nation in blocks, Maryland (12-12, 4-8 ACC) was held to a season-low three blocks.

The Terrapins started the match strong by taking the opening set with 16 kills on just four errors. A 5-0 run in the middle of the set sparked by a pair of Whitney Craigo service aces gave Maryland an insurmountable 17-11 lead.

The match quickly turned in Notre Dame’s favor, however, as the Irish outlasted Maryland in a critical second set, 27-25. An Adreene Elliott kill gave the Terps set point, 24-23, but Notre Dame battled back to take four of the final five points.

The Irish carried the momentum from the second set throughout the rest of the match en route to victory. Notre Dame had four players with double-digit kills, led by 13 from Ton Alugbue.

Kelsey Hrebenach had a fantastic offensive night for the Terps, tallying a career-high 13 kills with a .611 hitting percentage. Craigo finished with 23 assists and four service aces.

Maryland has the rest of the weekend off from game action before returning to the court next Friday against Duke in Comcast Pavilion.
