The Maryland women’s golf team will play in its third tournament of the 2013 fall season when it heads to East Carolina University for the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate beginning Monday.
The 16-team field includes Appalachian State, Boston College, Tennessee-Chattanooga, East Carolina, East Tennessee State, Elon, Georgia State, James Madison, Longwood, Middle Tennessee State, North Carolina-Wilmington, Old Dominion, Penn State, William & Mary, and Winthrop.
Tee time is scheduled for an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start on Monday for the first round at Greenville Country Club in Greenville, N.C. Greenville Country Club is a Par 72, 6,004-yard course. Tuesday’s round will begin with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
Maryland’s lineup for the tournament is Juliet Vongphounmy, Emily Gimpel, Heidi Baek, Panitta Yusbai, and Jess Gregory. Alexandra Papell will be playing individually in the tournament.
The Terps are coming off a third place finish at the Starmount Classic last week.
Heidi Baek led the Terps in the Starmount Classic tying for seventh overall in the tournament while shooting a three round score of 219 (70-77-72). Emily Gimpel was right behind Baek finishing tied for 13th place with a score of 221 (71-75-75). Juliet Vongphoumy finished tied for 17th with a score of 221 (72-75-75).
Freshman Alexandra Papell and Panitta Yusabai saw improvement in their second career tournament as Terps. Papell finished tied for 29th with a score of 227 (75-80-72) and Yusabai finished tied for 33rd place with a score of 228 (78-75-75).
Gregory played individually in the Starmount Classic finishing tied for eigth with a score of 219 (75-70-74).
Vongphoumy will look to continue where she left off at the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate. Last season, she shot a 68 in the only round to win the tournament. The second day of the tournament last year was cancelled due to unplayable conditions.
Following the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate, the Terps will return to competition Sunday, October 20 at the Pat Bradley Invitational in Lakewood Ranch, Florida.
