GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Maryland women's golf team will travel to compete in the ACC Championships at Sedgefield Country Club April 19-21. The Terps will begin teeing off at 8:30 a.m. Friday morning at the 6,210-yard par 71 course.

The Maryland women's golf team enters the ACC Championships after a season filled with success and breakout performances. The team has competed in nine tournaments dating back to last fall, with its best finish coming from a win at the Lady Pirate Invitational October 8. At last year's event the Terps finished seventh, led by performances from Juliet Vongphumy, Christine Shimel, and Emily Gimpel.

Director of Intercollegiate Golf Jason Rodenhaver knows the Sedgefield Country Club presents a particular set of challenges, and anticipates a tough weekend of putting. "This is our fifth year playing the golf course," said Rodenhaver. "It's an old Donald Ross design. His courses have slick undulating greens. For our team to be successful this week we need to be smart around the greens. Hopefully we have a great putting week."

The Maryland team currently ranks seventh in the conference in scoring average, posting a 75.46 individual average and a 301.84 team stroke average this season. The team's season-low round of 287 came at the UNCG Starmount Classic on October 1-2. The lineup for this tournament will feature Juliet Vongphumy, Christine Shimel, Heidi Baek, Emily Gimpel, and Jessica Gregory.

Senior Christine Shimel is the team's most experienced golfer and ranks 13th in the conference in scoring average (74.56). At last year's event, Shimel shot a 227 (77-74-76) and finished tied for 17th. Her best finish this year came at the Palmetto Intercollegiate where she tied for second while shooting a one-over 217 (74-73-70).

Sophomore Juliet Vongphoumy has continued to be one of the team's most consistent players this year. Vongphoumy currently ranks 16th in the conference in scoring average (74.76) and carded the team's best finish at last year's ACC Championships with a 225 (74-77-74). Vongphoumy recorded her best finish at the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate, where she won her first collegiate tournament shooting a season-low 68.

Heidi Baek has emerged as one of the team's top contributors this spring. The freshman has recorded the team's best finishes in the last two tournaments (Briar's Creek Invitational and Marsh Landing Invitational). She is currently 33rd in the ACC with a scoring average of 76.48, and recorded her career-best finish at the Briar's Creek Invitational where she tied for 7th.

This year's field includes No. 4 ranked Duke, No. 12 North Carolina, No. 13 Virginia, No. 22 NC State, Boston College, Miami, Wake Forest, and Florida State.
