Terps Finish 21st at Cougar Classic

HANAHAN, S.C. - Christine Shimel shot an even-par 72 to rise 15 spots on the leaderboard and finish tied for 48th on the final day of the Cougar Classic at Yeamans Hall Golf Club in Hanahan, S.C.

Maryland finished 21st as a team with a 912 (309-295-308). Shimel, a senior, responded after an opening round 79 by shooting 71 Monday and 72 Tuesday to finish 6-over par.

Junior Emily Gimpel shot 229 (77-77-75) and sophomore Juliet Vongphoumy shot 236 (75-73-88). Freshman Heidi Baek and sophomore transfer Kendall Dusenberry completed their first tournaments for the Terps by shooting 237 and 239, respectively.

Florida captured the team competition with an 852 (12-under par), led by individual champion Camilla Hedberg's 13-under 203 (69-66-68).

The Terps return to action next week when they head to the Cardinal Cup in Simpsonville, Ky.
