KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - The University of Maryland women's golf team will look to capture its second straight team title when it heads to the Palmetto Intercollegiate on Oct. 28-29.
The tournament gets underway with 36 holes at the par-72 Oak Point golf course in Kiawah Island, S.C., on Sunday and concludes with 18 holes on Monday. Live scoring is available at www.Golfstat.com.
The Terps, coming off a title at the Lady Pirate Invitational earlier this month, will be playing their final tournament of the 2012 fall season. Maryland has a pair of golfers that rank in the top four in scoring in the ACC; Christine Shimel is third at 73.5 and Juliet Vongphoumy is fourth at 74.0.
Vongphoumy won the individual title at the rain-shortened Lady Pirate Invitational by shooting a 4-under 68 in the tournament's lone round. That propelled Maryland to the team title for the third straight year.
Other teams in the field at the Palmetto Intercollegiate include: Augusta State, Bucknell, Campbell, College of Charleston, Charleston Southern, The Citadel, Coastal Carolina, East Tennessee State, Elon, Georgia State, Jacksonville State, James Madison, Kansas, Maryland, Michigan, Richmond, South Florida and Xavier.
