COLLEGE PARK, Md. – With several of the area’s top players in tow, along with key additions from around the nation, the University of Maryland football team announced its 2014 recruiting class on Wednesday.

Featuring nine players from the Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia metropolitan area, head coach Randy Edsall announced the signing of 17 student-athletes, including 16 who signed national letters-of-intent on Wednesday. One signee, Derwin Gray, enrolled at the university for the spring semester.

Edsall and the coaching staff added a balanced recruiting class, which includes eight offensive players and eight defense players along with one specialist. The Terps landed a five-star recruit in Damian Prince for the third consecutive year in addition to 12 players who earned all-state honors.

“We made ourselves a better program today with the addition of these 17 recruits," said Edsall. "We addressed our positions of need and added depth to our roster, which will increase competition for our student-athletes as we prepare for the 2014 season.”

According to Rivals, Maryland landed the top-two players in its home state in offensive lineman Damian Prince and linebacker Jesse Aniebonam. A Bishop McNamara product, Prince is the third five-star recruit to join the Maryland football team in as many years. Prince earned Parade All-American honors, first team All-USA honors from USA Today and was selected to play in the 2014 Under Armour All-America Game.

Aniebonam, a four-star linebacker from Our Lady of Good Counsel in Olney, joins an already deep and talented linebacking corps. The native of Silver Spring was a consensus all-state selection and earned a spot in the 2014 U.S. Army All-America Game. The Terps further strengthened the position with the addition of Pennsylvania AAAA all-state performer Tyler Burke of Coatesville High School in Coatesville, Pa., and Nnamdi Egbuaba of St. Frances Academy in Baltimore, Md.

After signing with the Terps last year before prepping at Fork Union Military Academy, offensive lineman Derwin Gray enrolled at the university prior to the start of the spring semester and will be with the team when spring practice begins. Gray, who was ranked as the No. 1 recruit in D.C. by ESPN last year, played in the 2013 Under Armour All-America Game.

In addition to Aniebonam and Gray, Maryland added three more four-star recruits in offensive lineman Larry Mazyck, quarterback Will Ulmer and wide receiver Juwann Winfree. Mazyck, a junior-college transfer for Iowa Western, earned first-team NJCAA All-American honors while helping to lead the Reivers to a No. 2 national ranking.

Ulmer, a native of Laurel, Md., prepped at St. John’s College High School in Washington, D.C., and joined Prince in the Under Armour All-American game, while Winfree, who prepped at Dwight Morrow High School in Englewood, N.J., participated in the 2014 Offense-Defense All-America Game.

All-state selections Sean Christie of Patchogue-Medford High School in Medford, N.Y., and Brendan Moore of Westwood High School in Austin, Texas, join Gray, Mazyck and Prince along the offensive line.

The Terps strengthened the tight end position with the addition of Andrew Gray of Chardon High School in Chardon, Ohio. Gray was a Division III all-state selection as a senior.

Brett Kulka of General Mclane High School in Edinboro, Pa., and David Shaw of Spring Grove High School in Spring Grove, Pa., complete a group of two defensive lineman in the 2014 class.

Consensus All-Maryland selection Josh Woods of McDonogh School in Baltimore, Md., leads a group of three defensive backs. Woods is joined by Westlake High School’s Antwaine Carter and Colonial Forge’s Daniel Ezeagwu.

Semper Fi All-American and Arizona all-state selection Nate Adams of Greenway High School in Phoenix, Ariz., is another talented specialist set to join the Terps.
