GREENSBORO, N.C. – Freshman Roddy Peters has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Week after guiding the Maryland men’s basketball team to a pair of victories against Boston College and Florida Atlantic. This is the first career conference honor for Peters.
The District Heights, Md. native averaged 8.0 points and 4.0 assists in two outings last week. Peters saved his best performance for the Terrapins’ ACC opener at Boston College, scoring a career-high 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting. He helped seal the game with a three-point play to put the Terps ahead by nine points with 32 seconds remaining.
Peters has responded well since earning the nod in the starting rotation, shooting 50% from the field and 80% from the free throw line in the last two games. The freshman currently leads the Terps with 38 assists (3.5/g), while averaging just 20.2 minutes/g.
Winners of two consecutive games, Maryland returns to action Saturday against Boston University at 1 p.m. in Comcast Pavilion. The Terps are 3-1 all-time against Boston, last meeting in 1991.
