Dec. 2, 2005

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland Terrapin wrestling squad debuts at home for a dual against local rival American this Sunday at 2 p.m., at Comcast Pavilion. The Terrapins have spent two straight weeks at tournaments finishing ninth at the Body Bar Classic and sixth at the Mat Town Invitational.

Andrew Schlaffer (149) leads the Terps so far with a 10-3 record. He placed third at the Body Bar Classic and the Mat Town Invitational. Jerry Afari (197) and Bryan Reiss (285) are next on the team in wins with six apiece.

Maryland (1-2) opened the season with duals against Edinboro, Old Dominion and Slippery Rock at the Avalon Duals in Edinboro, Pa. The Terps picked up a win against the Rockets but fell to the Fighting Scos and Monarchs.

American is 2-4 on the year, with three of those losses against nationally ranked opponents. The Eagles feature nationally ranked individuals at the 165, 184 and 285 weight classes.

The Eagles escaped last year's meeting with a 23-21 win over the Terps in Washington D.C.
