COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The No. 6 University of Maryland wrestling team won two of three dual meets today at the Northeast Duals in Troy, N.Y., claiming victory over Northern Colorado and No. 12 Lehigh while falling to No. 10 Central Michigan.

The Terps moved their record to 5-1 on the season, including 2-1 against ranked opponents.

"I'm happy where the team is right now because I know we have time to get better," said head coach Kerry McCoy. "I was happy with the way we wrestled against Northern Colorado and Lehigh. Obviously you never like to lose but sticking with a team like Central Michigan when you're not wrestling your best shows a lot."

Maryland started the day at 9:15 a.m. and wasted little time putting away Northern Colorado. James Knox opened the day by knocking off No. 15 Tony Mustari 2-1 and the Terps won nine of 10 matches en route to a 35-3 victory.

Central Michigan boasted six wrestlers ranked in the top 20 of their weight divisions and outlasted the Terps 21-16. With the Chippewas out to an early 9-0 lead, No. 7 Alex Krom took an 11-3 major decision over Ryan Cubberly to bring the score to 9-4, but Central Michigan took four of the next five matches to go ahead 21-7 and put the match out of reach. No. 3 Hudson Taylor recorded the 68th pinfall of his career - one short of tying Jake Stork's school record of 69 - over Eric Simaz. Patrick Gilmore continued to perform well at heavyweight for the Terps by taking a 2-1 decision over No. 9 Jarod Trice.

The Terps capped the day with a win over Lehigh and former Maryland head coach Pat Santoro. Maryland won the first four matches and seven of 10 overall for a 22-12 win that was never really in doubt.

Knox took a 4-0 decision over John McDonald to open the match and No. 7 Steven Bell earned a 6-1 decision over No. 18 Matt Fisk at 133. Krom got a 5-4 decision over No. 12 Seth Ciasulli at 141, and Jon Kohler (149) defeated Joey Napoli 5-3 to give the Terps an early 12-0 lead.

After Sean Bilodeau pinned Kyle John to bring the score to 12-6, Josh Asper took a 7-6 decision over Mike Galante and No. 4 Mike Letts beat No. 18 Robert Hamlin 5-3 to give the Terps an 18-6 lead.

Maryland travels to Chapel Hill, N.C., to take on North Carolina in their ACC opener on Friday. Match time is set for 7:00 p.m.
