Terp Wrestlers Host NC State In ACC Opener

Jan. 12, 2006

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland wrestling team opens ACC regular season action Friday night at 7 p.m., against NC State at Comcast Pavilion. The Terps are coming off a mid-week loss at Navy, while the Wolfpack enter the dual after winning two of three matches last weekend at the NC State Duals.

Admission is free.

Three Terps picked up wins Wednesday night against Navy: Brendan Byrne (133), Alex Krom (141) and Adam DeCosmo (165). Andrew Schlaffer (149) continues to lead the team in wins with 17 on the year. He is also the team leader in dual victories with five.

NC State will likely be without sophomore 157-pounder Kody Hamrah (2-1), who is probably out for the season with an ankle injury, and possibly without redshirt-freshman 197-pounder Ryan Goodman (15-3), who suffered a slight knee sprain vs. Appalachian State in the NC State Duals.

Following the dual against NC State, the Terps will return to action next week at home as they play host to VMI at Comcast Center Pavilion. The dual agains the Keydets is slated for Saturday, Jan. 21, 1 p.m.
