COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The 6th-ranked University of Maryland wrestling team begins the 2009-10 season Sunday at the Buffalo Open, as they look to build on last season's success, which culminated in the Terps' second straight ACC Championship and a 10th place finish at the NCAA Championships.
Seven Terrapin wrestlers begin the season ranked in their respective weight classes in various polls, including No. 2 Alex Krom (141), No. 3 Hudson Taylor (197), No. 4 Steven Bell (133), No. 4 Mike Letts (174), No. 15 Brian Letters (157), No. 25 Patrick Gilmore (HWT), and No. 26 Josh Asper (165).
"I am very excited for our guys to get some outside competition," said head coach Kerry McCoy. "This should be a good test for us as there will be a lot of tough teams and individuals at the tournament. I also like the fact that we will have the majority of our team there, which doesn't happen too often. This weekend will set the tone for the rest of the season."
Other programs set to compete include: No. 15 Edinboro, No. 27 Lehigh, Buffalo, Duquesne, Pittsburgh, and Rutgers, as well as a number of others.
Terrapin wrestlers scheduled to compete include: James Knox, Steven Bell, Joey Boone, Mookie Golden, Danny O'Malley, Bryan Osorio, Matt Bogusz, Jon Kohler, Justin Cash, Danny Orem, Domenic DeRobertis, Kyle John, Jimmy Sheptock, Josh Asper, Andrik Cruz, Steven Gamble, Mike Letts, Owen Smith, Ty Snook, Dallas Brown, Bradley Nielson, Ryan Gray, Christian Boley, Tommy Sitar, Patrick Gilmore, and Owen Duffy.
