Asper, a freshman at 165 pounds, continued his recent dominance, winning all five matches to push his overall winning streak to 17. Asper has not lost a match since Dec. 29, 2008 at the Midlands Championships and has now placed first in four consecutive open tournaments.
After a first-round pin, Asper advanced to the semifinals with a decision and major decision. Asper defeated Kevin Dufresne, 3-1, to get to the title bout, where he edged Lehigh's Brandon Hatchett, 3-2.
Kohler, a junior at 141 pounds, won his second straight open title to push his own winning streak to nine. Kohler won four matches en route to the title and was never seriously challenged until the final bout.
Kohler opened with a 10-0 major decision over Navy's Dustin Haislip before quickly pinning Lehigh's Brendan Keys in 1 minute, 14 seconds, his fastest fall of the season. After a 10-3 decision against Army's Casey Smith, Kohler narrowly defeated Ohio's Darren Boing, 3-2, to claim the championship.
Redshirt freshman Will Sharbaugh finished in second place at 125 pounds. Sharbaugh won his first three matches by fall, decision and medical forfeit, but was upended in the title bout, 12-6, by Eric Morrill.
