COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland wrestling team opens up its 2007-08 season at the Fighting Scot Duals in Edinboro on Saturday, November 3. The Terrapins will face Army, Mercyhurst, and No. 16 Edinboro.
The Terps will face Army at 1:00 p.m., Mercyhurst at 3:00 p.m., and then take on the host Fighting Scots at 5:00 p.m. The Terps went 2-1 last year at the event by beating Stanford and Mercyhurst before losing to Edinboro.
No. 7 Mike Letts and No. 8 Hudson Taylor will make their season debuts on the mat after stellar seasons last year that saw them both advance to the NCAA Tournament. Letts was the ACC Champion at 174 pounds while Taylor advanced to the round of 12 at NCAAs.
Two true freshmen will make Maryland debuts as Eric Medina and Brian Letters are scheduled to wrestle at 149 and 157 pounds, respectively. Both impressed at the Red & Black Wrestle-Offs last week as Medina pinned his opponent in the first period and Letters won by major decision.
Maryland's probable lineup also features some movement between weight classes as Brendan Byrne has moved down from 133 pounds where he was All-ACC in 2006. Mike McGill has moved up from 157 to 165 and Patrick Gilmore moved up to heavyweight from the 197 pound division.
After the Fighting Scot Duals, Maryland travels to No. 11 Penn State on Sunday, November 11.
