COLLEGE PARK, Md. - University of Maryland wrestling head coach Kerry McCoy today announced the signing of seven student-athletes during the spring signing period, finalizing Maryland's 2010 class.
McCoy and his staff went to nearby talent to fill several needs, signing student-athletes from Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania and New York. Four of the signees are state champions.
"I am very excited about our incoming class," said McCoy. "These guys are a perfect complement to the class we brought in last year, adding depth and experience to our program. When you graduate a class like we just did, it's a challenge to keep the ball rolling.
The Terps said goodbye to four of the most talented seniors in school history this year with the graduation of Hudson Taylor, Alex Krom, Steven Bell and James Knox, all of whom were starters on last year's team. Maryland finished in the top 20 at the NCAA Championships for the second consecutive year, while Taylor and Bell earned All-America status with top-8 finishes.
Maryland, which also signed three recruits in the fall, has positioned itself to continue competing on the highest level with a class that Intermat ranks in the top 10 nationally.
"This class will definitely keep us on track as one of the top programs in the nation," said McCoy. "To be recognized as a top-10 recruiting class is very special for us, and we intend to get the most out of these guys."
