BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - Four Terrapin wrestlers picked up victories Saturday, but Bloomsburg won decisive matches at 157 and 165 pounds to edge No. 18 Maryland, 22-15, at Nelson Field House.

Frank Goodwin won a major decision at 141 pounds and Shane Arechiga followed with a 2-1 decision at 149 pounds to give the Terps (6-4) a 15-14 lead. With the dual in the balance, the Huskies earned consecutive major decisions to secure a seven-point victory.

“Today was a tough one,” said head coach Frank Goodwin and Jimmy Sheptock. Christian [Boley] looked better and got a win over a ranked guy. Although it stinks to lose, there were some positive things. We have to stay focused on getting better every day.”

Seventh-ranked Jimmy Sheptock got the Terps on the board Saturday night at 184 pounds. After the Huskies won a technical fall at 174 to open the dual, Sheptock tallied a takedown with under a minute left in the second period to break a 2-2 tie. Leading 6-3 in the third period, Sheptock shot the leg to add another takedown to earn an 8-3 decision.

With the victory, the junior improved to 24-3 and 10-0 in duals this season. Sheptock is undefeated in 23 career duals.

Trailing 5-3, the Terps received a significant victory at 197 pounds from Christian Boley. Boley squared off against 18th-ranked Richard Perry, who had only dropped one match in 21 outings coming into Saturday night’s bout. Boley scored a quick escape to begin the third period to tie the match at one. With 12 seconds remaining before overtime, Boley hit on a leg grab, took Perry to the mat, and quickly pinned Perry for an important six team points.

Bloomsburg responded with three consecutive decisions at 285, 125 and 133 to take a 14-8 lead before Goodwin and Arechiga stepped up for Maryland.

Goodwin scored takedowns in the first, second and third periods to cruise to an 8-0 major decision over Matt Rappo. At 149, with the match tied at one in the third period following an escape by Arechiga, Bloomsburg’s Simon Kitzis was penalized for his second caution to give Arechiga a 2-1 advantage. The sophomore withstood a late scramble to win the decision.

Maryland’s momentum was stunted following Arechiga’s close win. The Huskies’ Frank Hickman, ranked 11th at 157, and Josh Veltre, ranked 16th at 165, both earned major decisions to close out the dual.
