COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland wrestling team heads up to University Park on Sunday, November 11 to take on No. 11 Penn State at 1:00 p.m. in the Nittany Lions season opener. The Terrapins are coming off of a 2-1 opening weekend at the Fighting Scot Duals hosted by Edinboro, nearly completing an upset of No. 16 Edinboro in the feature dual.
Maryland beat Army in its first match of the day, 26-13, and then handled Mercyhurst, 30-15. Edinboro narrowly escaped an upset by the Terps with a 19-15 victory.
Maryland was up 15-13 heading into the final heavyweight match and redshirt freshman Patrick Gilmore held a 2-0 lead heading into the final period of the day against No. 9 Joey Fendone. The nationally ranked Fendone came through for the Fighting Scots though, pinning Gilmore with just 10 seconds to go in the match to give Edinboro the win.
