Wrestlers Lead Early, But Duke Rallies

Feb. 8, 2003

DURHAM, N.C. - Senior Jake Stork earned his 22nd consecutive win of the season, and his eleventh in dual meet action, as the Maryland Terrapins lost to the Duke Blue Devils, 20-16 in Carmichael Auditorium.

The Terps jumped out to an early 10-0 lead following wins by Stork, Sal Aquia, and Eric Fehnel. In the opening bout of the match in the 184-pound division, Stork ended Duke's Tom Cass's 11-match win streak with a 10-4 decision. Aquia then scored a 10-0 major decision, and Fehnel won 8-2 over Roy Williams.

The Terps then lost four consecutive matches, beginning with a pin in the 125-pound division, a major decision at 133 pounds, and two more decisions to give the Blue Devils their first lead of the match 13-10.

The Terps responded strong with consecutive wins by Adam James at 149 pounds and Jason Kiessling at 157 pounds to put the Terps up 16-13.

Wrestling with a broken hand, Sean Collins failed to score a point, and fell 6-0 as Duke tied the match at 16 with one bout to go.

Wrestling in the 174-pound division, Patrick Cissne couldn't escape from Duke's Tim Marcantonio in the final seconds as Marcantonio held on for a 9-7 win to give the Blue Devils their first win against the Terps in three years.

Maryland will be in action next against neighboring rival American, Wednesday, Feb. 12 in Washington D.C.
