COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The NCAA will announce the brackets and participants for the 2010 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. through an online-streamed selection show on the NCAA's Web site, NCAA.com.
More than 300 student-athletes' names, along with the 10 championship brackets, will be announced by Pat Tocci, Director of Administration and Public Relations for the National Wresting Coaches Association, while Wrestling Committee chair Brad Traviolia will kick off the show.
The entire selection show will be aired via an online stream which can be viewed by all fans here. Following the show, complete printable brackets will be available on the NCAA's Web site.
Six of Maryland's 10 starting wrestlers have already qualified for the NCAA Championships by securing an automatic bid at the ACC Tournament, which took place March on 6. Steven Bell, Alex Krom and Hudson Taylor all won individual titles at their respective weight classes, with Taylor being named the Most Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament. Kyle John and Josh Asper both reached the finals at 157 and 165 pounds, respectively. James Knox clinched the final automatic bid at 125 pounds by finishing third in his class.
Looking to accompany the six Terrapins whom automatically qualified for the tournament are Corey Peltier (184 pounds) and Patrick Gilmore (285). The 46 at-large bids will be selected based on based on a number of statistics, including head-to-head competition, quality wins, RPI and coaches ranking.
The NCAA Championships will be held March 18-20 in Omaha, Neb., where Maryland will look to improve upon last year's 10th-place finish, the second-best in school history.
