No. 23 Wrestling Hosts Rider, Rutgers Saturday

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The No. 23 Maryland wrestling team will host a pair of duals on Saturday, December 8 at Comcast Pavilion. The Terrapins (5-3) will face Rider (0-2) at Noon before taking on Rutgers (0-2) at 2:00 p.m. The Terps won their home-opener last Sunday, 25-9, against Lehigh in front of a capacity crowd.

The Terps won seven of the 10 matches against Lehigh led by redshirt sophomore Hudson Taylor who recorded his eighth pin at 197 pounds. Classmate Brendan Byrne was also impressive, winning by major decision, 24-10, at 125 pounds.

Freshman Eric Medina won by decision, improving his record to 8-4. He is now ranked in the 149 pound weight class in the USA Today/InterMat/NWCA polls, coming in at No. 17.

Both Rider and Rutgers enter Saturday with 0-2 records. The Broncs have faced a pair of ranked teams, losing to No. 8 Missouri, 34-4, and No. 1 Iowa State 34-0. Rutgers has dropped duals to Ohio State, 37-0, and Lehigh 24-13.

Rider sports three ranked individuals as Don Fisch is No. 14 at 149 pounds, Doug Umbehauer is No. 10 at 184, and T.J. Morrison is No. 20 at 197 pounds. Fisch finished fifth in the nation last year in his weight class to earn All-America status. Rutgers' Steve Adamcsik is ranked No. 19 at 141.

This is the last action for the Terps before taking time off for final exams. Maryland resumes competition on December 29-30 at the prestigious Southern Scuffle.
