COLLEGE PARK, Md. - University of Maryland wrestlers Corey Peltier and Josh Asper will compete in the FILA Junior World Team Trials this weekend at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
The FILA Junior Team Trials consists of wrestlers 17-20 years old and some of the best college underclassmen in the country will be competing.
The freestyle tournament begins at 9 a.m. Saturday with preliminaries, quarterfinals, semifinals and finals running through 2 p.m. The championship series begins at 5:30 Saturday evening.
Champions from the event will represent the United States in Ankara, Turkey, Aug. 4-9.
Asper and Peltier are both coming off strong freshmen seasons. Peltier, despite battling an ankle injury much of the season, finished third at the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship at 174 pounds, helping the Terrapins defend their conference title. Asper dominated open-tournament play in his redshirt campaign, going 34-7 with a season-ending 17-match winning streak.
